Welcome to Friday Reflections! A weekly series sharing current life reflections, and 1 thought or thing I loved and/or learned from the week as I navigate rebuilding my life as a late bloomer.
Howdy ho, and welcome to another Friday Reflection!
I’ve finally started feeling some momentum for the first time in weeks!
Something seemed to have clicked for me on Wednesday around branding and creating a foundation for everything here, and in my life.
Actually, I spilled some words from my soul out onto my notes app and made it into an Instagram post that same day about this renewed sense of self (I hope it’s giving: a creative’s manifesto; you’ve gotta click to read the whole thing):
It felt like the biggest step into this new world I’m trying to build for my digital life. Like I’m actually embracing the fun around self-expression. Rather than just saying it.
Since then, I’ve been researching brand things I wanna nail down and actually am working on a template for myself that’ll hopefully cover all the ways I wanna encompass my identity online and in real life. Kinda like a cheat sheet to always keep things fun, and focused.
I’m thinking of digital things to share and give to y’all but it’s all sporadic… Hence the template I’m making so I’m not too jumbled with what I do and offer to my community.
Fingers crossed I can keep the momentum and if not that? The clarity so I can keep moving forward.
Cheers to a breakthrough 🥂
Thing One Thing…
A few East Asian-inspired meals for dinner this week!
After seeing a guy eat a bomb-looking tuna rice ball, I knew I had to quickly make some of my own a deconstructed version.
My new mini rice cooker put in work this week. I made several super small batches of short grain rice thinking I, “wasn’t gonna eat much more of this.”
Boy, was I wrong.
A recipe I read said they lightly salted their rice when it was done. And I did. And it was amazing as well as the rice on its own before I discovered that little tip.
I didn’t have the right tuna filling for it (I had the Costco white albacore ones which are a bit too dry) but I made due. Adding a lot of Japanese Kewpie mayo, some plain rice vinegar, a pinch of sugar, and some oyster sauce (adds savory sweetness but not necessary).
That, with hot rice, scooped into a small crispy seaweed sheet? Ohhh… So good. I had it two days in a row!
Same with my other meal…
Which was Trader Joe’s tteokbokki (a chewy, mochi cylindrical rice cake) in its sweet and spicy sauce, and a side of tempura shrimp I fried up myself.
Oh. I had it on Wednesday night and would’ve eaten it on Thursday if we hadn’t gone to my grandma’s for dinner!
Funnily enough, I may have dinner plans from Thursday to Saturday so it’ll have to wait... But I definitely want it again!
Alright, I’ve obviously been living in the kitchen lately so if you’ve been obsessed with any meal or snack lately, please share in the comments!
Have a great weekend! I’m gonna go back to my creative cave so I’ll have something to think about other than how much I miss the good food I’ve just eaten.
See ya soon!
Warmly,
Cierra
