Welcome to Friday Reflections! A weekly series sharing current life reflections, and 1 thought or thing I loved and/or learned from the week as I navigate rebuilding my life as a late bloomer.
Hey there and Happy Friday!
I’m writing to you from a virtual cafe (I’ll explain later), but it is a beautiful day outside as I sit down to start writing this on a Wednesday. Mid 70s (around 24C) in November! I sat outside earlier today; luckily dad hadn’t packed away the spring/summer chairs into our storage yet.
Anyway, a quick head’s up/news for you:
Look out for a longer-form piece coming out next week! Instead of an A-Z gratitude list, I’m gonna talk about different ways to view gratitude.
I’m gonna be testing out a new (possibly) bi-weekly bite-sized post for you coming tomorrow. :) It MAY replace Friday Reflections? Not sure, we’ll see…
An email to paid and the most engaged subscribers may also be going out to you in the next few days because I need your help.
Thank you for your time!
A regrettable(?) walk
It’s funny getting used to really taking in the “fall back” an hour time change this year. And unfortunately for my dad and brother, I said yesterday when the sun was directly shining on us and it was in the high 60s (about 19C), “it’s a lovely day for our long walk to get ice cream!”
Oh, we did the walk. We started our trek a little after 5pm and had already lost the warmth of the sun by then.
By the time we got to the ice cream place, it was nearly dark and very nippy. But the ice cream is always SO good. Despite my brother and I shivering, we scraped the bottom of our bowls (I had black raspberry and snickerdoodle, he had coffee chocolate chip and “Ore-dough”).
The ice cream trip hurt so good, but I still felt bad requesting it with how rapidly cold and dark it got during it, haha!
A driving update since getting my license
In an update about driving… I still haven’t done my solo drive yet. I got cocky about a month ago and thought I could just make a beeline to our nearest Taco Bell for some nacho fries with my dad in the passenger seat, but the after work traffic was TERRIBLE and made me reroute, which got me lost and just became a scarring experience for me.
I haven’t driven since… Until today (Wednesday)!
I drove my dad and brother to an appointment (it was pretty much a straight drive) and felt confident again! So much so, that I finally remembered to take the car keys off my mom’s keyring and hook it onto my own.
Going to that appointment (and grabbing a quick lunch to go afterward) reminded me how much I feel energized being around people busy doing their own things. Even just seeing people working behind counters reminds me that, hey! People exist outside my bedroom. Wow!
But thinking about that reminded me of the Human Design concept of Environments.
A little chat about optimizing your environment
I’ve been trying to figure out a practical way to introduce Human Design for you, and I truly can’t think of the “perfect” introduction. Instead, I thought it’d be neat to share a tidbit with you when I was experiencing or applying it in real life.
So environments in Human Design have to do with where we feel most at home and energized.
In my case when I look up my Human Design chart, my environment is kitchens. And that means that I thrive in places where people are hustling and bustling and doing work–whether creative or otherwise. Their energy brings me energy. And one way I love looking at Human Design is retrospectively revisiting moments in my life before Human Design was a part of it to see how things do and don’t fit.
I loved seeing people walk around with a purpose to their day because it reminded me that I had a purpose to mine too.
In this case, I remember when my mom would have appointments at my favorite hospital and we’d see the receptionists, nurses, doctors, and patients just hurrying about. It made me REALLY want to set up shop in that hospital to do some of my own work. I loved seeing people walk around with a purpose to their day because it reminded me that I had a purpose to mine too.
Which brings me to…
This One Thing…
Every day isn’t gonna be this warm and nice, so I decided to look into videos to give me the next best thing to that motivational buzzy feeling. And I ended up finding a website you can use for free to bring more than just audio ambiance, but visual ambiance whether you need the beach, a bustling sitting, a campus tour, a commute, and more!
I just used it once so far, so I’ll report back if I use it much more… But like I said, it’s free to use (of course there’s a pro for more features) but what’s available is more than enough for me!
I’m hoping it’ll help fill that “kitchens” momentum for me, cause I love when I’m in that energy. And if you’re wanting to find out your own environment, look up your own chart and report back. I can tell you a bit about it or point you to a resource or two.
(Or tell me if you’re really digging that ambiance website too?!)
A pretty packed one this week, I know! I hope you enjoyed it still.
Now back to writing :)
See ya next week!
Warmly,
Cierra M
