I learned to drive at the tender age of 27, in California no less! I floated back in to the DMV office after (just) passing my Driver's test, and my hand was shaking so much when I signed my name inside the little box, I'm surprised that there was a legible signature on my license.

I think it took me about a month to actually work up the courage to back the car out of the garage and drive the handful of blocks to our grocery store that very first time. Once I got the first few errands under my belt, I was okay.

Fun fact: I did not sneeze when I was behind the wheel for the first six months. No lie. I think I was completely determined not to close my eyes for even a millisecond until I was totally at ease with driving.

Repetition is going to be your best practice, especially for those first six months. Drive a little bit as often as you can. It will become second nature. Then you'll eventually have your next big adventure: *buying* your first car.

I love this memory (and encouragement), Victoria, thank you!

I remember the driving tester just walking in without saying anything to me and I was like... Uh oh... I was SO happy to finally get my license, but also took a month (or two) before I got back in the driver's seat. Just this week made me a bit more confident with driving, so I believe it'll eventually become easier and easier! It's so interesting to see what causes me to falter or doubt myself while I drive. How careful I've been. Or, noticing that on one of these days, I was letting my hands glide on the wheel rather than firmly holding it at 10 and 2, haha!

I can't believe you didn't sneeze (and even thought about that!) while driving! It makes sense though! I feel like I'm SUPER aware behind the wheel right now. This was all comforting to read!

I'll keep at it, bit by bit!

The last time I did something new for the first time was a couple of weeks ago, got my first professional manicure. The next time I'll do something new is this weekend when I try Apple Maps..thanks for that tip. I learned to drive around 25, so I'm cheering you on. You've got this. But you might always need to scream song lyrics when you get home.

PS--I'm sure looking forward to the hair essay.

How'd you like your manicure experience?! I hope Apple Maps helps you out too! I wanna try Waze too; my family uses that to go to new places but I'm gonna have to see if it has what I want (the stoplight count and clarification, showing you the current speed limit, etc.).

And thank you so much! I've felt better at the end of this week with the driving I did and I'm proud of myself! I'll keep driving when I can, hopefully every week before the snow falls (maybe next year I'll voluntarily do snow haha). And yeah, screaming song lyrics will have to become a part of my routine, especially when dad's out of the house. I will prioritize it!

Thank you as well! I had to take a breather from the essay, but pecked a few more words in for it. It was more complex than I originally realized!

I couldn't stop looking at my nails. Gorgeous red. But, it lasted only a week because of the typing I do.

I used to drive with a Garmin, which suction-cupped to the windshield, and one of the reasons I loved it was that it told me the speed limit. When you mentioned Apple does that and a stoplight count, I'm sold.

I sympathize with your essay challenge. I'm working on one that was supposed to be simple. Simple. It's turned out to be complex. The complexity intimidates me, so I procrastinate working on it. Which is what I'm doing right now. Back to work.

I see you're reading Save the Cat. I read Save the Cat Writes a Screenplay, and it was like a lightning bolt. I write personal essays, I could not stop writing. Love, love, love Save the Cat.

I've ready a tiny bit (I have the orange covered one on my phone from the library) and LOVE it so far. I love when things are spelled out for me and I'm given guidance and it seems perfect. I cannot wait until I can get back into working on the idea for a book, and to use it for personal essays as well.

So glad I chose a good one!
